Westmont Business Orientation & Integration Program
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Starting a new business can be a daunting task. Questions such as “Who do I talk to for this question?”, “What forms do I need to do this,..” , “How do I make payments on this,...”, “How can I get the word out about my business?”, “What resources do I have at my disposal?”, and many other questions can overwhelm a new business owner..
The Westmont Business Orientation & Integration Program is created to support and improve the success rate of new businesses in Westmont. This program will significantly enhance the local business ecosystem. By offering resources, network opportunities, and support, it can help new business owners navigate the challenges of starting a business, ultimately fostering a more vibrant and sustainable economic environment. This program could also strengthen community ties and make Westmont an attractive and “Business Friendly” destination for future businesses.
The effective integration of new businesses will strengthen the fabric of the business community and the community in general, allowing our community to be more highly integrated than ever before.
GOALS

Help make doing business in Westmont easier for businesses.

Reduce the time Village staff spend on following up with business owners on procedures and payments.

Provide key information and contacts up-front to business owners in an effort to reduce the need for additional questions and potential frustrations.
KEY PLAYERS
This program will include comprehensive networking between new business owners and key Village and community contacts. A partial list of key players would be the Village Administration, Community Development, the Clerk’s Office, Police department, Fire department, the library, and Chamber board members.
SPECIFICS
Upon approval of a business license, the Village Clerk’s office would provide a copy of the approved business license to the Westmont Chamber of Commerce. The new business would then be added to the program by the Westmont Chamber of Commerce. This program will provide invaluable resources to the business such as:

One-Year Membership to the Westmont Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau

“Doing Business in Westmont” portfolio with key information, processes, checklists, and contacts

Directory of Village key contacts

One-on-One meeting at their location with the Westmont Chamber president to address questions and/or concerns that the business owner may have.

Invitation to a “Meet & Greet” of key business contacts

Introduction to the community at a Village Board meeting

Ribbon Cutting ceremony that would provide immediate exposure to the community
-
Press Release on the business to provide additional exposure

Distribution of an announcement flier that would spotlight the business to the community

Provide them with an opportunity to host a Business After Hours event to provide footsteps into their business. (If they are not a brick and mortar business then they could host the event at Westmont Centre.)

Survey at the end of their first year in business to gauge program effectiveness
COST
The cost of this program will be funded by the Village.
The Village would not be responsible for any program costs after that first year for the business.
